Poet Laureate WW1
In this project, the students of Stephen Sellers sophomore humanities class were asked to be Poet Laureates of different countries that were involved in WW1. The Laureates were responsible for choosing a major event from the country they were given. These events had to be within the general WW1 timeline. The laureates also had to choose a poetic form to write their poems in and they had to choose a perspective to view the event. Each laureate had to submit an essay that included historical information for their poem and explain their clever choices and give a professional presentation to their classmates about the historical event that they chose. For the exhibition of this project, the students were in charge of organizing, editing, designing and creating an anthology of their work. The laureates organized a book launch party to celebrate their work and to raise awareness for the Veterans. The laureates created a launch party in Durango, Colorado at the Open Shutter Art Center. The proceeds of the sales from the book are going to a Veteran's organization of their choosing. The laureates created a website to show their process throughout the project.
